Beschreibung

Discover the Amazon and learn more about the fauna and flora of this immense rainforest!

  • Day 1: Arrival & journey to La Selva Jungle Lodge

On arrival at Quito airport, you'll be met by a Selva Jungle Lodge representative who will check you in and brief you on your stay.  You'll start your day with a 30-minute flight from Quito to Puerto Francisco de Orellana (El Coca) in the Amazon rainforest. You'll then board a motorboat and head down the Napo River to the port of La Selva, which takes about 2 hours. You'll then change boats and continue your journey by canoe into the heart of the Amazon rainforest. You'll reach the Selva Jungle Lodge in the afternoon where you'll be greeted with a welcome cocktail.

One of the guides who will be present during your stay will tell you all about the rainforest, so you can get to know more about the amazing place you have just arrived in. You'll go for a first rainforest walk in the forest and be able to marvel at 400-year-old trees. Your guide will share their knowledge of the Amazon's flora and fauna. You'll then return to your lodge where you can relax and enjoy dinner.

  • Day 2: Observation Tower & rainforest walk

You'll leave early in the morning for the Observation Tower which is a 20-minute walk from your lodge. The 36-metre-high tower offers a breathtaking view of the rainforest and its birds. Your guide will help you spot the colourful Amazonian birds from the top of the tower.

Later on in the morning, you'll have the choice to return to your lodge or go for a walk with your guide who will show you the rainforest's medicinal plants which are still used today. They will tell you all the little-known facts about the history of the Amazonian rainforest.

After lunch, you'll take a one-hour hike to the edge of the lagoon. You'll be able to watch the monkeys and birds that come to feed and drink. In the late afternoon, you'll head off on canoes not far from the lagoon for a trip down the Napo River. Admire the sunset reflecting off the water and enjoy a quiet moment as you watch the forest darken while the nocturnal wildlife wakes up.

  • Day 3: Parrot clay lick & visit to an indigenous community

You'll set off early in the morning aboard a motorboat along the Napo river along to the "parrot clay lick", where you'll see hundreds of parrots and parakeets that flock to this mineral-rich spot. You'll then visit the Kichwa Anangu indigenous community in the heart of the rainforest, where an Amazonian woman will welcome you and give you a taste of this community's daily life. A unique moment that will plunge you into the lives of the people who live in the Amazonian rainforest.

After lunch, you'll head to Garzacocha Lagoon for a one-hour walk. On your way, you may be lucky enough to spot primates including black mantis tamarins or even tapirs. During your walk, your guide will tell you about the animals that live in the Amazon rainforest. You'll return to your lodge by canoe in the late afternoon.

  • Day 4: Transfer by boat

On your last day, you'll return to Quito by the same means as the outward journey: paddle canoe, motorboat and then a 30-minute flight. This return trip will give you a final opportunity to spot the Amazon's birds and animals.

For on 5 day / 4 night stays:

If you have booked a 5-day stay, you'll get an extra day at the Selva Jungle Lodge and do some of the same activities but in other parts of the rainforest (hiking, canoeing, bird watching, etc.).
