Escape to the Bacalar lagoon by boat and discover its turquoise waters and birdlife!
For your excursion to Bacalar, you'll be picked up directly from your hotel by a driver and driven south.
The Bacalar lagoon, located in the very south of the state of Quintana Roo, is the largest in the region, measuring 42 km in length. You'll meet your guide and board a boat to begin your journey through the seven-colored lagoon. Your boat will head for the Pirates Canal, named after the corsairs and bandits who used to sail up it to plunder the city. Enjoy a swim in the shallow, crystal-clear waters.
Your walk continues to Cenote Negro, where you can swim and dive. Here, the water darkens to almost black due to its depth. You'll continue your journey along the lagoon to the sanctuary of stromatolites, living fossils on the surface of the water. This is a rare and fragile ecosystem, so enjoy the spectacle with your eyes.
Next, head for Bird Island, the last stop on your escapade. Let the birdsong soothe you as you wind down the day and return to port.
Lunch will be served on the boat during the day (drinks included).
After your day's excursion to Bacalar, the bus will take you back to your accommodation in Cancun.
