Take a day trip from Florence to discover Lucca and Pisa, and try a local specialty, Buccellato di Lucca!
After meeting your escort in the early morning near Florence train station, you'll travel to Pisa by coach.
You'll be free to explore the city at your leisure, or, if you've chosen the option, enjoy a guided walking tour of the Piazza dei Miracoli, the Square of Miracles, in the company of a professional English-speaking guide. You'll have the chance to admire the baptistery, the monumental cemetery and Pisa's famous leaning tower. Crowds permitting, you'll also have the opportunity to explore the interior of the cathedral, while listening to your guide's comments and anecdotes.
You'll then have some free time to extend your discovery of the city. Take advantage of this time to take photos in front of the tower, and/or climb it if you opt for the ticket.
You'll join the town of Lucca, known among other things for its ramparts and city walls. You'll discover the historic center of the old town and pass by its must-see sites: the piazza Anfiteatro, built on the ruins of a Roman amphitheater, the Guinigi Tower, the San Martino Cathedral, as well as the picturesque cobblestone streets. You'll also have the opportunity to take a walk along part of the walls and enjoy the view over Lucca's rooftops. Opt for the guided tour option and learn more from your guide's commentary and anecdotes!
Before heading back to Florence at the end of the day, you can sample the traditional Bucellato di Lucca, a cake typical of the city of Lucca. It is distinguished by its crown shape covered in sugar and egg, and is made with raisins and aniseed.
