Beschreibung

Set off to discover Gozo and the famous temples of Ggantija accompanied by a guide!

In the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel by minibus. You will make your way to the port of Cirkewwa at 9:30am, for the crossing to the island of Gozo.

On arrival on the island, you will follow your guide to visit themegalithic temples of Ġgantija, which has been on theUNESCO World Heritage list since 1980. This impressive archaeological site dates from around 3600-2500 BC. The same as the temples of Ta' Ħaġrat and Skorba in Malta. The temples of Ġgantija are considered to be the second oldest monument on the planet, just behind Göbekli Tepe in Turkey - they're older than the pyramids in Egypt! The etymology of "Ġgantija" is derived from the Maltese word for "giant" ("Ġgant"), as the site was thought to have been built by giants. This mythological idea takes on its full meaning when you realise that the temples are built from megaliths (massive blocks of limestone) measuring over five metres long and weighing more than 50 tonnes.

After visiting the temples of Ġgantija, you'll head to Victoria, the capital of Gozo. Victoria is best known for its Citadel, the walled city. This medieval fortress, with its imposing military architecture, is Gozo's main landmark, visible from all over the island.

You will continue your excursion to Xlendi Bay, surrounded by picturesque cliffs, the bay is now on the must-visit list for those visiting the island of Gozo. Your final stop will be the bay of Dwejra, located on the west coast of the island of Gozo.  Weather permitting, you'll have the chance to discover its impressive 65-metre-long natural tunnel that opens onto the sea, during a short boat trip (supplement payable locally).

At the end of this day of sightseeing, you will take the boat and then the bus back to your accommodation in Malta.
